Meet Hans Kroon, consultant sustainable process development

People

Hans Kroon (64) has recently been hired as a consultant by Brightsite. His main area of focus will be sustainable process development. Hans has worked at DSM for 36 years and has gained an immense amount of knowledge and experience. He is pleased to pass this onto the next generation and looks forward to supporting the activities of program lines 2 and 5: ‘Reduction of emissions by replacing naphtha and natural gas usage’ and ‘transition scenarios and system integration’.

Hans graduated as a Chemical Technologist from TU Delft and went on to do 36 years of advanced research at DSM before joining Brightsite as an independent consultant. At DSM Hans worked within chemical and bio-technological process development. During his time there, he has worked on a broad range of subjects: from the labs via pilots to large-scale plants; from fertilizer, phenol, aspartame, caprolactam, acrylonitrile, stanyl, bioethanol, levulinic acid from biomass, solar panels to sustainable proteins; and from Chemelot, Chinese solar panel plants to bioethanol from corn straw in the American Midwest. It is thus safe to say that sustainability has played a large role throughout his career.

Hans is therefore a great addition to Brightsite, and we would like to warmly welcome him. For Hans, this opportunity is also a homecoming of sorts. It is a renewed acquaintance with many people he knows from his time at DSM. Additionally, it is an opportunity to meet many new colleagues. Hans is looking forward to work on Brightsite projects and use his knowledge and experience for the development of a sustainable chemical industry at Chemelot.
