The transformation to a sustainable, circular chemical industry is more urgent than ever. Founded five years ago to accelerate this transition, Brightsite is now a leading knowledge center that strengthens collaborations between industry, science and society and enables sustainable chemistry from our unique base at Chemelot.
During the Brightsite Connaction Event, we will show you how we are building on from the first five years of Brightsite, and thank the Province of Limburg who supported us in making this possible. At the same time, we are looking towards the future: we invite existing and new partners to follow through together and convert the available knowledge into concrete action. Together we will realize a sustainable economy, with a circular chemical industry as the driving force.

Diederik Samsom
Former Chief of Cabinet for Climate Action European Union
Diederik Samsom is former Chief of Cabinet Commissioner for Climate Action of the European Union, former party leader of the Dutch Labour Party (PvdA) and an entrepreneur. With his extensive experience in sustainability, innovation, energy and climate, and his deep knowledge of political relationships, he inspires companies, organizations and governments to actively contribute to a sustainable future.
Peter Wennink
Top official and Captain of industry
Peter Wennink is one of the most influential captains of industry in the Netherlands. Since 1999 he worked at ASML, where he held the role of President and CEO from 2013 until his retirement. He currently serves as Vice Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Heineken NV, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Eindhoven University of Technology and member of the Supervisory Board of VDL, among others. For his contribution to industry, he was appointed Grand Officer in the ‘Orde van Oranje-Nassau’.

Esther Pijs
Director General Realisation Green Growth
As of October 2024, Esther Pijs serves as the (Founding) Director-General for Green Growth Implementation at the Ministry of Climate and Green Growth. In this role, her responsibilities include promoting industrial sustainability, overseeing offshore energy projects, and managing grid congestion. Her portfolio also encompasses deep underground activities such as CO₂ storage and mining. Previously, she held the position of Director-General for Groningen and Subsurface, and served in various roles within the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Policy, including Director of Heat & Subsurface and Director of Regional Affairs.
The presentation of the Brightsite Connaction Event is in the expert hands of Mark Verheijen, Cluster Director of Chemelot and member of the steering committee for the National Program Sustainability Industry.
On behalf of Brightsite, Managing Director Arnold Stokking will take the floor and provide insight into Brightsite’s industry transition, growth areas and action agenda.
