New partnership agreement enables Brightsite to continue accelerating sustainability of chemical industry

Press Release

Geleen, 21 November 2024 – Brightsite, the knowledge center for advancing sustainability in the chemical industry, is entering a new phase. During the Brightsite Connaction Event on Wednesday, 20 November, the longstanding collaboration between the core partners – Sitech, TNO, Maastricht University, and Brightlands Chemelot Campus – was reaffirmed with an official signing ceremony. In addition, Brightlands Chemelot Campus announced an additional investment in the knowledge center.

The first five years of Brightsite’s operations were generously supported by the Province of Limburg. “The Province of Limburg has played a crucial role in Brightsite’s success over the past five years,” said Arnold Stokking, Managing Director of Brightsite. “Thanks to their support, we have grown into a knowledge center that not only generates ideas but works action-oriented, conducting fundamental, applied, and experimental research in parallel – a unique approach in the Netherlands.”

A new milestone after five years of impact
“The scale and urgency of the sustainability transition leave no room for delay,” Stokking emphasized. “This is why we are proud of the close collaboration with Brightlands Chemelot Campus and their commitment to our mission.” Alongside this collaboration, Brightlands Chemelot Campus is increasing its involvement with an additional investment aimed at driving innovation and realizing sustainable value chains. “This strengthened partnership not only enhances Brightsite but also bolsters the Campus’s position as a hub for innovation and development within the Dutch chemical industry,” said Astrid Boeijen, CEO of Brightlands Chemelot Campus.

Focus on the future
Founded in 2019, Brightsite’s mission is to accelerate the transition to a climate-neutral chemical industry. Five years on, Brightsite has achieved tangible results and technological breakthroughs, including the development of plasma technology and the launch of the Circular Engineering bachelor’s program, whose first cohort of graduates received their degrees this past summer. “Our mission remains clear: to contribute to the transition toward sustainable feedstocks and processes that have an impact not only at Chemelot but far beyond,” Stokking concluded.
