Digital Transition
– Data-Driven Chemical Industry
Digitalisation is essential to achieving the sustainability goals for 2030 and 2050. This is acknowledged by the European Union in the so-called twin transition: the green and digital transition. Digital technologies contribute by making processes more efficient and safer, enabling better alignment of material and energy flows between plants at Chemelot, and ultimately supporting the shift from time-based to data-driven production and maintenance. Brightsite has developed a clear vision of the digital factory/site of the future to support this transformation.
Within the core program of the Digital Transition – titled Digital Factory of the Future – Brightsite focuses on the development of digital twins based on an open standard: the Asset Administration Shell. Digital twins are digital representations of physical objects or systems, and the use of an open standard ensures seamless integration and communication between various digital and physical entities. This also allows for a scalable solution. The digital factory of the future depends on a structured and accessible data architecture.
